Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi Rahul,

Given your exp and current CTC you can ask for 12 LPA while negotiation.
For your exp TCS would offer you Assistant Consultant designation(to get a consultant atleast u should be 9 yrs exp).

However TCS has a very high variable pay around 30% so try negotiating that but they wont minimise it as its their policy.
On the other hand TCS will pay you 90-100 percent of the variable provided u are not a managemnet guy(MBA).
Hope that helps.

Good luck.

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi SAP Retail,

Thank you for your response.  Can you let me know the salary bracket (highest and lowest) for AST?
Also I feel, the salary that you have asked me to start negotiation seems a bit low (less than 30% hike). I feel, ideally one should ask for 40% hike and settle for at least 30-35% hike.

Please let me know your views.

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi Rahul,

Am Sorry that i dint consider your salry to be 9.3 but 9.0. However as per curretn conditions TCS at max could give you only 12LPA for your skill sets and exp(which is 30% hike for you) and not more than but. But it also depends upon your technical interview and the way you negotiate. 12 LPA is average salary wat i have mentioned so that you can get a idea whether you can go high or settle with 12LPA while negotiation. The average salary of an AST in TCS is around 9-10 LPA.

Note: If you are a PMP certified you could go for 13 LPA.  They would also not consider you for this years appraisal.
Hope it helps.

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi Rahul,

As a TCS employee I would say that the package offered to you is an okish package(Below 30% tho'). Usually people who get hired are considered as top performers and given the highest package possible(Hike of 30 to 35 %). Anyways I would say that it is not a good offer considering the factor that TCS Variable pay is huge around 25 to 30 Percent. From my point of view you can wait for the annual hike in your company and try after that or you can try in other company or if you are too eager to join TCS and not happy with your existing employer you can go ahead.
You can also get others opinion but finally the choice will be yours.

Good Luck.
Best Regards.

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi Vishal,

Considering your experience, the salary offered by TCS is comparatively low.
For this exp a person would get a salary close to 13 LPA.
However your current salary also plays a vital role in deciding your Package.

If you are getting an hike of 30% to 40% from your current package then this offer is considerably fair.
On the other hand if its below 30% then this offer is not a good offer( u can get better).

TCS usually offers a very high variable package.
However 45 % is a bit high, usually TCS offers Variable pay of 30% to 35% which is normal as per TCS policy.
On the other hand TCS would give to 95% to 100% of variable pay to the employee so you need not worry about that.

Considering all the above facts. If your package offered is 30% more than your current package then go for it.
It would be better if you could negotiate on the variable part.

Hope it answers.

Good luck

Best Regards.

Hi,

Many thanks for taking you time to read my post. Would appreciate if you can respond asap, as i would have to move ahead with joining in less than few days.

I am a Business analyst with more than 8yrs of experience of which 4yrs spent abroad. Took a personal break for close to an year and currently have 2 offers. One from Scope International and the other from WIPRO, both form Chennai.

Here is what both has to offer me:

SCB is offering me an Associate manager with a fixed salary of INR 10 Lacs PA CTC(Basic pay of 33k and the rest as non taxables and PF contributions- Takes me to 74k which forms as the Pre Tax Net salary after PF contributions) + Bonus of up to 10% on the CTC, No Probation, Laptop, VPN connectivity, Work from Home, 21days of leave apart from the closed holidays with 10days being mandatory holidays, 9-6 Job timing with limited (or) no Onsites. The work location is very much commutable within a distance of 30kms for a return trip.

Wipro is offering me a Project Manager post with a CTC of INR 12.5 Lacs PA (with QPLC close to INR 3Lacs PA - i.e 25% of my CTC, basic pay of 27k per month+other non taxable allowances- takes me to 90K with the Pre TAx Net salary after PF contributions , if an only if the 25k of QPLC will be paid in full ) , Non taxable Allowances of car, furniture included in the CTC, 6 Months of probation, 21days leave of which 11 can be carry forwarded to the next quarter, 8.30-6 work timing (further extendible as per IT needs), Onsite on need basis or probably no onsites, the work location is at a commutable distance of about 90kms for a return trip.

Each has its own merits and demerits, but just wanted to find out
1. Which of their salaries will help me take home more salary.
2. Which has a better work culture?
3. Which of them has a better career prospects?
4. Flexibility to work-life balance?
5. How about increments/salary revisions on both sides?

Should you require further details am happy to provide, and thanks once again for you time.

Rgds
Venkat

Hi Venkat,

Thanks for providing the details.
1. Scope international - Its a pretty decent offer since all the 10 Lakhs would be fixed(no variable), which assures you that even when the company is in trouble they would pay the full amount to you. As per the statistics provided above regarding your salary, 10% bonus on the fixed everyyear would give you 1 Lakh which makes your salary to 11 LPA. The most important plus is that you need not travel a long distance to and fro to the office.
     1. Which of their salaries will help me take home more salary.
As you had already mentioned ti would give a salary close to 74 to 75 per month on hand(Plus 10 percent on fixed slary per month or per year as per the companies norm)
     2. Which has a better work culture?
The work culture comparing with wipro is better.
    3. Which of them has a better career prospects?

   4. Flexibility to work-life balance?
As mentioned by you scope gives you much work life balance than wipro.
   5. How about increments/salary revisions on both sides?
There would be standard increment in the salries in both the companies so need not worry about that.

2. Wipro - Though the salary that wipro is offering is more than scope 12.5LPA could see that the variable pack is close to 3 LPA. Which means neglecting your variable pack your fixed pay is only 9.5 LPA. Interms of package both the companies are almost same. Wipro would give you about 70 to 80 percent of the variable depending upon the projects performance and the companies performance.

1. Which of their salaries will help me take home more salary.
Comparing both their salaries would see that Wipro give you a little bit higher package(around 80 to 85K per month). But to get this you need to travel  90 kms everyday.
2. Which has a better work culture?
Many of my friends who work in wipro wants to leave the companies just because their work culture is not that good. Still it depends upon project to project.
3. Which of them has a better career prospects?
Hope both provides the same kinda role. Interms of onsite it totally depends upon the project and requirement. You might travel for a short terms now and then since your role is project manager(project dependency).
4. Flexibility to work-life balance?
It wont provide any work life balance, so pls do not expect.
5. How about increments/salary revisions on both sides?
    As said before.

So on the whole considering the salary, work life balance, distance, work culture etc Scope is better than wipro, provided you get what has been promised.

Good luck

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

After carefully considering positives and negatives on both the offers, i have chosen to go ahead with Scope International's offer. The decision is entirely based on Work Culture, Stability, Work Life balance, Career Growth and Commutability. The only downside would be i will be missing the extra money which will may or may not be earned through onsites, but then again in the present recessionary scenario i reckon i felt it was a risky proposition to choose. Its entirely my personal view, hope i have made the right choice.

Any experts guidance before today would be appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi,

I got offer from TCS as Assistant Consultant designation. But they are offering me less than 30 % hike .
My current CTC is : 8.4
Exp. : 7.5
Technology : DOTNET

TCS give me offer of 10.75 yesterday . in that they mentioned Monthly & Quarterly variables . Monthly variable will be too much high .they told me for the first year you will get all variables but from next year your variable can be changed.
Today I got another offer from congnizant of 11 PA which will 31% hike from my current CTC. they are offering me position of S.A.
CTS have variables of 70,000 rs & it will be paid at the end of year. there are no other variables .

So considering carrier growth , salary paid & work culture which company I should join TCS or CTS ?
Should I negotiate with TCS with the CTS offer ?

Re: Salary for 7.3 years exp to join TCS

Hi Gorakh,

Considering both the offer the CTS offer has a high value because of the fixed amount it gives you.
On the other hand TCS would definitely pay you around 90 to 100%(if companies performence is good) of the variable pay.

In all the aspects both companies are equal. Even salary offered by both the companies are more or less same.
So considering the fixed pay paid by the company you can go ahead with the CTS offer.

hope it helps.

Best Regards.
